For the millionth time, Teddy rolled on the ground and stared up at the sky, clutching his broom in his hand. The Firebolt continued to hover right next to him. Teddy sat up slowly, rubbing his shoulder. He couldn't master the Wronski Feint to save his life. He sat on the ground, putting his head on his knees. Was he foolish to think his chances for the Quidditch game were leaning towards the Gryffindor team? He thought back to their last practice. Everyone had worked perfectly; as the Muggles said, working like a well oiled machine. Teddy shook himself slightly, got to his feet, and remounted his broom.
He soared straight up, lapping the Pitch on the outer edges, pretending to look for the Snitch. Instead, he was thinking about what he was doing wrong in each dive for the Wronski Feint. If it went right, he should've pulled out of it just before hitting the ground. Instead, he kept loosing his nerve and dropping to the ground. He gritted his teeth.
He pulled a golf ball from his pocket and threw it as far as he could, as high as he could. Then, before it could even start to fall, he was following it's descend. He plummeted towards earth, stretching out his hand. The golf ball hit his gloved palm and Teddy was pulling out of the dive. He watched the ground rapidly shrink underneath him before leveling off. He grinned to himself.
That's good, real good, he thought. Pleased, he circled the Pitch again and threw the golf ball. Once again, he took off after it, falling it's descend. He caught it about a foot off the ground and rose again. He could do it when he had a reason to do it. Teddy grimaced, pocketed the golf ball, and flew in wide laps around the Pitch. He picked a spot, just in front of the stands, and shot down towards it. In his mind he could see the crowd gasping and could feel the other Seeker hot on his trail.
At the last moment, Teddy pulled up and shot high into the air, grinning. He leveled off over the stands and continued to circle it. He saw Vicky sitting in the stands and wondered how much she had seen.
Once again, he dove randomly, choosing a spot this time in the middle of the Pitch. As the ground go closer, Teddy began to time it. A foot off the ground he began to pull back. His toes brushed the ground as he rose, shooting down the Pitch.
With more confidence, Teddy rounded the Pitch and sat there, behind the goal posts. He scanned the Pitch, smiling to himself. He crossed his arms and sat there, debating what to do.
It was getting dark out, but there was still enough light to see. Teddy rose slowly, pulling out a golf ball. He flung it as far as he could and took off after it, catching it several inches from the ground. Considering it a done deal, he touched down, dismounted, and walked towards the changing rooms, whistling to himself.
