Romulus Lupin, the full brother to the late Remus J. Lupin, told fellow staff members and Headmistress McGonagull that it was "time for him to retire" and he felt that this time "was the best time to leave".
Lupin has taught Defense Against the Dark Arts since the "rebirth" of Hogwarts, after the Battle where You-Know-Who was finally defeated. When asked if the fact that his brother died in that very school bothered him, Lupin replied, "We are all trying to make the world a better place for future generations."
His retirement is somewhat of a shock. Nephew Ted J. Lupin reported, "It just won't be the same without him" and "fears what teacher will replace him." Ted Lupin is the son of Remus Lupin, and has often seen visiting the memorial.
Headmistress McGonagull has opened the post of D.A.D.A. for interviews. The decision will be made before the start of the new term.
