For the umpteenth time, Jie realized that he shouldn't have allowed Dominik's friend on the team. The two Beaters weren't as strong as he wanted. Instead, Roman figured he could just swing his bat a few times and look impressive. Jie groaned.
He also knew his chasing skills weren't too great. He was too occupied on making sure the others were ready for their match that he hadn't spent a lot of time training himself. He was determined to fix that, though.
An hour before he had scheduled a Slytherin practice, he walked out on the field himself and mounted his broom. Kicking off from the ground, he soared above the pitch, watching it slowly shrink. He sped down to one end, banked a wide turn, and sped back to the other end. He rolled in midair, pretending to knock the Quaffle from another player. Riding as if he had the scarlet ball, he took off towards the other goal posts, weaving left and right. He rolled once or twice and dove down sharply, perfecting his turns and dives alone.
He spent a good twenty minutes practicing his rolls, knowing how useful they were in avoiding an oncoming player. Jie spun around and dove down steeply, rolling to the side just before he crashed into the ground. Rising as quickly as his broom would allow, Jie rolled again. It was a rush, watching the world spin around him. He straightened and zoomed off towards the goal posts.
Circling around the goal posts, he fly out half way to meet an imaginary opponent, knocking an imaginary ball out of his hands. He quickly turned, dropping a few feet as he flew. About a quarter of the way to the goal posts, he ducked and threw to an imaginary player.
Feeling confident in his rolling abilities, Jie sat alone in mid air, staring around him. Ari was right, Jie thought numbly. Who would've guessed the twerp actually knew something about Quidditch? Jie knew he had been playing basically since he could sit on a broom, but Jie hadn't even thought about trying out a roll.
Time to go meet the team, I guess, Jie thought, turning. He saw the distant shape of the team, moving as one blob across the grounds. He slowly drifted towards the ground and walked across the pitch the locker rooms.
"Roman, a word," Jie called, seeing the looming Beater with Dominik.
